Taking an intermission

At the Kodiak Arts Council, the health and safety of our audiences, artists, staff, volunteers, and the broader island community are our priority. We are closely monitoring the guidance provided by the CDC, the State of Alaska, and local officials to respond to the public health threat of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Alaska.

We have taken the following measures:

  • All Spring Arts 2020 classes are cancelled (as of March 13). Families who paid tuition online via credit card have received refunds.

  • The March 28 concert with Eileen Ivers is cancelled (as of March 14), and we hope to reschedule at a future date. Ticket holders who paid online via credit card have received refunds except those who communicated their desire to donate (thank you!). In the days ahead, we will work to contact ticket holders who paid via cash or check.

  • The April 25 Arts and Adventure Auction has been postponed. The Arts Council board of directors is contacting our donors to determine the best course of action for your donations. Please note that there is currently no public access to the Arts Council office and Auditorium storage areas. All items are in safe storage.

  • All other group programming, classes, Arts Labs, and events sponsored by the Arts Council are suspended until the end of of April.

  • We are suspending the Arts Education Kits lending program. However, we are working with community partners and developing safety protocols to distribute arts supplies and resources to Kodiak families. If you would like to be a part of this effort as a partner or donor, please email katie@kodiakarts.org.

The Arts Council offices within the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium are not currently accessible to the public. Our staff will be working remotely and can be reached at the following emails:

Katie Oliver, Executive Director: katie@kodiakarts.org

Trisha Bartel, Director of Performing Arts Programs: programs@kodiakarts.org

Erica Ross, Arts Education Coordinator: education@kodiakarts.org

General Inquiries: kodiakartscouncil@gmail.com

If you are looking for a way to be an arts hero and force for good in uncertain times, please consider

  • buying art from a local artist, either directly from the artist or through local stores with online or private appointment options;

  • maintaining lessons and memberships with local arts studios and organizations (even though your interaction may look different in the weeks ahead);

  • making a small donation in any amount significant and meaningful to you to the Arts Council to support our ability to recover from lost revenues.

Stay healthy and well, Kodiak. We look forward to gathering together with you in the future.
