Kodiak High School Art Room 

Join Kodiak Island Rocks coordinator, Erica Thompson, in this fun 3 day rock painting class. Day 1 will be a short field trip to the beaches of Near Island to collect rocks to paint. Day 2 will be designing and painting their rocks. Day 3 will be an adventure back over to Near Island to hide the rocks to continue the Kodiak Island Rocks kindness project. Parent volunteers welcome! 

Silk Painting

11:30 a.m. — 1:30 p.m. 

Ages 10 and up

Learn how to create, design, and paint on silk fabric using the ancient art form of silk printing. Students will design their own image and transfer it to silk fabric using a wax method and silk dyes. Students will produce two finished pieces of art by the end of the week.

Sun Printing

9 a.m. — 11 a.m.  

Ages 8 — 16

Students will explore Kodiak's wooded trails and rock-filled tide pools to collect artifacts for cyanotype sun printing. Students will learn a brief history of early photographic methods, study design elements and create dreamcatchers using found materials, sun prints, and hand-stitched items.
