Kodiak Arts Council

Sum’Arts for Kids provides quality and affordable arts instruction to youth. For more than three decades, the program has engaged local teaching artists to work with Kodiak kids in theatre, music, dance, and the literary & visual arts.
For the summer of 2020, Sum’Arts will follow a distance delivery model. Registered families will pick up a unique kit of arts supplies designed to support the activities of each class. Students will meet with teaching artists via Zoom in small group settings. A typical class will include five x one-hour mini lessons with lots of support and ideas for being creative at home!

ZOOM is user friendly and is used by many arts organizations, small businesses, and universities for their classes. ZOOM has a comprehensive help center that can help you get started with joining a meeting. Watch the video below to help provide you with an overview. Staff will also provide a basic overview when you attend class.
Can Adults take the classes?
Sum’Arts for Kids is a youth arts education program. However, parents and guardians are welcome to create alongside their students at home.
Alaska is re-opening. Will you be offering in-person arts camps for kids later in the summer?
We are currently not planning to hold in-person camps. We have carefully considered the additional precautions and resources required to keep everyone safe for small group meetings, and the possibility that additional cases in the future will pre-empt cancellations of gatherings. To provide continuity for students and teaching artists, we are putting our time and energy into developing summer programs that can continue to be offered if circumstances and health mandates change.
