Parlor in the round

Saturday, April 19, 2024
Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium
Doors open at 7:00 pm;
Concert begins at 7:30

The Parlor in the Round program is made possible with funding by Rasmuson Foundation through the Harper Arts

Touring Fund, and is administered by the Alaska State Council on the Arts.

Alaska's musical game show returns to Kodiak! Borrowing from the guitar pull tradition of porches and campfires, songwriters from all walks of Alaskan life (and some beyond) will trade songs and stories as they are inspired by each other.

After the intermission, tradition is cast aside as the musicians dive into collaborations, jocular inventions and premeditated musings all based on written submissions from the audience.

Kevin Worrell hosts this production, drawing out the strength and vulnerability of each artist while holding the crowd closely throughout the performance. Expect to lean in and laugh out loud at the Parlor.

Ilumniati Hotties Solo: Sarah Tudzin is in high demand these days.Not only is she a lauded engineer and producer who has helmed recent records by boy genius, Weyes Blood, and Speedy Ortiz, but her own band, Illuminati Hotties, has also emerged as one of the sharpest and most sensitive acts on the pop-punk side of indie rock this century—“tenderpunk,”she has often called it.

Fairbanks grown and Los Angeles based, Emily Anderson has recently released a sophomore record, “Salt & Water”. Her single “Gold” was featured in a national Miller Lite campaign and a number of her works have been featured in video games (Calico, The Stars Between Us). Anderson is an award winning songwriter (American Songwriter, International Songwriting Competition) and her songs tackle subjects like grief, mental illness, friendship, and resilience. Her music has been described as “tender and brutal” and her sound akin to Phoebe Bridgers ruminating over coffee with Regina Spektor.

Indiana native Matt Brunoehler came to Kodiak through the US Coast Guard in 2021. He is a singer/songwriter and plays the guitar for Kodiak band, Home Bru. Brunoehler represents Kodiak on the stage with Illumniati Hotties Solo and Emily Anderson.
