Altered Books 2026
Call To Artists!

Create a work of art from a book and join the Altered Books Show!

An altered book is a form of mixed media artwork that changes a book from its original form into something different, altering its appearance or intended meaning. Part bookbinding, part bibliovandalism, part scrapbooking, and part sculpture, the Altered Books art show is open to all creatives!
The Altered Books Art Show began in 2013 as an arts program to celebrate the construction and opening of the new public library. The Kodiak Public Library Association and the Kodiak Arts Council continued to host the Altered Book Show each subsequent year until 2020. This year the Kodiak Arts Council,. The Kodiak Public Library Association, and the Islander Bookshop are bringing back this arts program. Previous years entries have included quilted books, books as wearable arts, fully functioning electronic devices created from books, and many unique and creative sculptural pieces.
Guidelines:
Artists may submit up to three entries in the Altered Books Art Show.
Entries are due Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 4 pm at the Arts Council office, inside the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium. There are no fees for entry.
The Kodiak Public Library Association has an inventory of old books which may be used for Altered Books projects. Interested artists should visit the Kodiak Public Library and ask a librarian about this option.
