Simple Jewelry Fabrication with Jennifer Foster

1 pm - 3 pm

Create a set of earrings and a pendant out of either copper or silver with materials provided. Finish with an antique patina, hammer finish of several texture options, shape with either dome or flat, and assemble to ear wires provided. Or make your own ear wires with supplies provided! 

 

Various techniques for shaping available to learn: drawing down wire (making smaller or adding hardness), creating ear wire shapes, filing sharp edges, dome a flat surface, add a textured finish, add a patina finish, attach a jump ring to another piece or ear wire, and finish with high polish or satin brush.

 

All levels are welcome and supplies will be provided.

 

Open to adults ages 16 and up. Masks are recommended but not required.

Geometric Embroidery with Alexis Jackson

In this workshop, participants will learn how to design and make their own Hitomezashi inspired square as well as explore the history of Sashiko as a necessity for survival and as art. Hitomezashi stitching is a type of Sashiko stitching originating in Japan. Its original use was to fortify garments that were falling apart by layering fabrics together with needle and thread. Participants will also view the work from a mathematical standpoint of symmetry, binary coding, probability, and randomness.

 

All levels are welcome and supplies will be provided.
