Botanical Illustration with Kristin Link

Saturday, March 20, 2021

2 pm via Zoom

Let’s celebrate some colorful Alaskan flowers in the middle of March! In this workshop, we will work from sketchbook to final watercolor page with the beautiful botanical subject matter. We’ll cover different plant forms and botany, sketching leaves, flowers, and seed pods. We will also explore color mixing, rendering different textures, and how to build up transparent layers with watercolor and pencil. Students will gain a foundation for learning about Alaska's flowers and how to capture them with watercolor.

All levels welcome and all supplies provided.

This is a virtual class that will be conducted in a small group over Zoom. Open to adult artists ages 16 and up.

The supplies pick-up date for this class will be Thursday, March 18 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium.

Keeping a Nature Journal with Kim McNett

Saturday, April 3, 2021

2 pm via Zoom

Learn to use a nature journal in the classroom to foster a dual proficiency in logical and creative modes of thinking. Nature journaling inspires an immersive relationship to the natural world and integrates disciplines such as science, math and writing into a creative and explorative activity. Learn to incorporate simple scientific instruments, data and observational recording and digestible amounts of artistic technique in the pages of an ongoing journal. With a balance of structured guidance and creative freedom, participants will develop a unique story of personal discovery that is fun, accessible, and rewarding in the process.

This is a virtual class conducted in small group over Zoom. This class is open to all adult (16+) participants, and Kim will be making connections between arts and sciences especially for educators working in school and community settings.

The supplies pick-up date for this class will be Thursday, April 1 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium.
