Silk Painting with Kelly Longrich

2 pm - 4 pm

In this class we will learn the wax resist method of silk painting. Focusing on process, we will experiment with color, pattern, painting techniques, and the natural flow of dye on silk. We will also learn how to prepare materials for use independently, or in the classroom. Participants will create one 21.5” x 21.5” scarf.

All levels are welcome and supplies will be provided.

This is an in-person class and will be conducted in a small group at the Gerald C Auditorium. Temperature checks and Masks are required before entering the building. Additional Details Regarding the Class location will be emailed prior to the September 18.

Geometric Embroidery with Alexis Jackson

1 pm - 4 pm

Participant will learn how to design and make their own Hitomezashi in-spired square as well as explore the history of Sashiko as a necessity for survival and as art. Hitomezashi stitching is a type of Sashiko stitching originating in Ja-pan. Its original use was to fortify garments that were falling apart by layering fabrics together with needle and thread. Participants will also view the work from a mathematical standpoint of symmetry, binary coding, probability, and ran-domness.
