Art Classes

Connect with the art community! Kodiak Art Council’s art classes offer a chance to learn, grow, and collaborate with local artists and instructors. All skill levels welcome.

Currently, most of our art classes are offered through the Munartet Project which prioritizes enrollment for Munartet Project Cohort members. When these classes have space, they will be linked below:

September:

Saturday September 27
Intro to Pen & Ink with Marina Thomas

An Arts Lab introduction into drawing textures and shading with micron pens. The class will finish off with their own ink drawing of dancing bears.

October:

Saturday October 18:
Whale of a Good Time with Natasha Zahn

Join Natasha Zahn in this Art Lab to discover (or rediscover!) the many ways to use watercolor paints, art materials, and paper with marine mammal themed line-drawing guides as inspiration. No final project is required in this two hour Art Lab, but we’ll be so busy that you’ll walk away with artistic creations and ideas!

Rekindle your creativity! Incorporate line-drawing as a basis for your color exploration and dip into watercolor paints, use new palettes, and try out watercolor crayons, pencils and inks. Try salt, wax, and sharpies in conjunction with paint. Use sheets of paper, cut outs, or postcards.

Come have a Whale of a Time at the October 18th Art Lab!

Saturday November 15:
Silk Painting Workshop with Kelly Longrich

There is one space available for the final Kodiak Arts Council Workshop of the Munartet Project from 1-4pm this Saturday in the Kodiak High School Art Room

Due to popular requests, KAC is offering Silk Painting as a longer Workshop session

*If space is available after Munartet Project sign ups, registration will open to the public*

Come explore the wax-resist method of silk painting, classroom tips, and project ideas with Kelly Longrich. Focusing on process, we will experiment with color, pattern, painting techniques, and the natural flow of dye on silk.

Workshop is for adults only- all levels are welcome and supplies will be provided.
