KODIAK ARTS COUNCIL ARTIST AWARDS

The Kodiak Arts Council offers Artist Awards every year to further individual growth in the arts. Award funds can be used to support a variety of artistic pursuits, including but not limited to: attending workshops or classes, purchasing materials or supplies to begin, advance, or complete work, supporting expenses related to arts business development (marketing, online media, exhibition support materials). A designated Ginny Shank Dance scholarship is also awarded annually in the discipline of dance.

The Awards Committee will review the applications and select awardees. Decisions will be based on completeness of application, quality of artistic work within the context of the applicant's experience and career stage, impact of the award on the applicant's artistic growth, and intended benefit for the Kodiak community.​​​​​​​

The Awards Committee will distribute up to ten (10) awards to individual artists in the amount of $300-$600 each. Additionally, one (1) Ginny Shank Dance Scholarship award will be made in the amount of $500.

 

Funds should be used for artistic endeavors taking place between May 2026 and May 2027. Artist Awards are not intended for college tuition, college room & board, or travel to & from college. Awards are also not intended to supplement school group events or travel.

 

Artists of all ages working in all artistic disciplines are encouraged to apply. Eligible disciplines include, but are not limited to dance, theatre, visual arts, music, storytelling, cultural practices, digital art, fiber arts.

 

Applicants must be a resident of the Kodiak Island Borough. Individuals from all Kodiak Island communities are encouraged to apply.

Applications must be received by 4:00 pm on Monday, April 27, 2026.

 

Applications may be submitted in one of three ways: 1) via Jotform, 2) via email as a Word or PDF file to info@kodiakarts.org, or 3) in hard copy in person at the Arts Council Office. Please use Arts Award Application in the subject line for emails. Samples of artist’s work are required to assist the committee in making selections. Hard copies can be turned in at the Arts Council Office and digital samples (preferred) can be submitted via email to info@kodiakarts.org

 

Artists will be selected and contacted by May 15, 2026.

 

Awardees are required to report on how the award funds helped to advance artistic growth. Report forms will be distributed to awardees in August 2026.
